Charles Howard

Charles Howard was born in London in 1922. He studied fine art in Devon and later in Worthing and Brighton before he and his family moved to Penzance in 1973 where he became a member of the Newlyn Society of Artists and the Penwith Society of Artists in St. Ives. He was chiefly a painter of coastal and harbour scenes in both oil and watercolour, in particular subjects in and around Cornwall, Brittany and in Spain. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and with London galleries Crane Kalman, Roland Browse and Delbanco and The New Art Centre. Howard won many awards, including the South West Arts major prize for painting. Charles Howard died in 2007.
